Offshore crane specialist Liebherr has secured a significant contract to supply six RL 2600 cranes for TenneT's 2 GW offshore wind transmission projects in the Netherlands. The Singapore-based engineering, procurement and construction contractor Seatrium will oversee the installation of these cranes on three offshore converter platforms: IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma, and Nederwiek Beta. With two cranes allocated to each platform, deliveries will be phased to ensure all units are in place ahead of the planned start of operations in 2029.
Liebherr's RL 2600 cranes are designed for offshore applications and come equipped with the company's LiMain digital maintenance system. This advanced technology enables remote monitoring and maintenance from shore, reducing the need for offshore service visits and minimizing downtime.
The selection of Liebherr's LiMain system marks a significant milestone for Seatrium as it becomes the first Asian engineering and offshore solutions provider to adopt this technology. By leveraging remote maintenance capabilities, operators can tailor their monitoring and support levels through a modular configuration, optimizing efficiency and reducing costs.
Key benefits of the RL 2600 cranes include their compact design, which is suited to space-constrained offshore installations. The crane features a reach of up to 45 meters and can handle loads of up to 25 tonnes, supporting maintenance and logistics activities on offshore wind infrastructure.
The weight-optimized design and use of high-quality materials in the RL 2600 cranes are intended to reduce downtime and maintenance requirements in demanding offshore environments. This will enable operators to focus on other critical tasks while maintaining the reliability and performance of their equipment.
For TenneT's converter platforms, the LiMain system will provide remote and partially automated maintenance functions, allowing operators to tailor monitoring and support levels through a modular configuration. This flexibility is crucial for ensuring the efficient operation of offshore wind infrastructure.
The successful delivery of these cranes underscores Liebherr's commitment to supporting the growth of the offshore wind industry. With its comprehensive range of products and services, the company is well-positioned to meet the evolving needs of operators in this sector.
Liebherr Netherlands will coordinate maintenance and support for the RL 2600 cranes once they enter service. This partnership highlights the importance of collaboration between equipment suppliers and operators in ensuring the long-term reliability and performance of offshore wind infrastructure.
The integration of LiMain technology into TenneT's projects represents a significant step forward in the adoption of digital solutions in the offshore wind industry. As operators continue to invest in automation and remote monitoring, Liebherr is poised to play a leading role in supporting these initiatives.
As the demand for offshore wind energy continues to grow, companies like Seatrium and TenneT are driving innovation and efficiency in this sector. The successful delivery of these cranes serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and technological advancement in shaping the future of renewable energy.
