Diesel Price Drops 6¢ to $3.579 a Gallon

Published: April 15, 2025
The national average price of diesel fuel has decreased by 6 cents to $3.579 per gallon as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This decline follows three weeks of increases during which the price rose by 9 cents. Compared to the previous year, diesel is now 43.6 cents cheaper. Prices fell across all five Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts, with the Gulf Coast region experiencing the largest drop of 7.1 cents. Similarly, gasoline prices have also decreased, now averaging $3.168 per gallon, a significant decline of 46 cents compared to last year.

Expert opinion highlights that fluctuations in diesel prices can significantly impact the transportation and logistics industry. Lower fuel prices generally translate to reduced operating costs for trucking companies, which can lead to lower freight rates and potentially stimulate economic activity by making goods more affordable. However, the market may remain volatile, influenced by global oil supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical events, and domestic production levels. As transportation plays a critical role in supply chains, monitoring fuel prices and their trends is essential for business planning and cost management in this sector.
