Diesel Price Nudges Up 1.9¢ to $3.758 a Gallon

Published: July 15, 2025
The national average price of diesel fuel has increased for the second consecutive week, rising by 1.9 cents to $3.758 per gallon, according to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This latest increase is part of a larger trend, as there have been three price hikes in the past four weeks, including a 20.4-cent spike on June 23. Diesel prices remain lower compared to the same time last year, showing a 6.8-cent decline.

Regionally, diesel prices experienced increases across the country, with the Rocky Mountain area seeing the largest rise of 4.8 cents. The Gulf Coast region, on the other hand, had the smallest uptick at 2 cents. The Midwest held steady with no change. Gasoline prices also saw a slight increase, with the national average reaching $3.13 per gallon, driven largely by gains in the Midwest and Gulf Coast regions.

In the transportation sector, fuel prices are critical as they significantly impact operating costs for trucking companies. A consistent rise in diesel prices can strain profit margins and lead to increased freight costs. This situation may compel carriers to pass on some of the costs to consumers, further affecting market dynamics. As a long-term trend, monitoring fuel prices will be essential for logistics firms in making strategic decisions regarding pricing and operational efficiency. The lower prices compared to last year provide some relief, but sustained increases could necessitate more significant adjustments in the market.
