EU Tariff Targets Include Boeing, US Cars and Bourbon

Published: July 15, 2025
The European Union has developed a new list of countermeasures targeting U.S. goods valued at 72 billion euros ($84 billion), which includes Boeing aircraft, automobiles, and bourbon in response to President Trump's proposed 30% tariff on EU imports. This tariff is set to take effect on August 1 unless mutual agreement is reached. EU officials aim to ensure negotiations remain productive while maintaining the option for retaliation against U.S. tariffs, which have been described as "effectively prohibitive" to transatlantic trade.

The EU's list features various categories, covering industrial goods like machinery and chemicals, agrifood products, and precision instruments. The initial list of targeted imports was scaled back from 95 billion euros following discussions with member states and industry representatives, emphasizing the EU's intent to select products that are strategically significant and for which alternative suppliers are available. Military products are excluded from these tariffs.

In line with this strategy, EU officials hope to conclude negotiations by the end of July, with the intention of balancing trade interests while preparing to defend against excessive tariff burdens. Discussions are ongoing, with key figures expressing the need for unity and resolve in negotiations with the U.S.

As an expert in transportation, it is evident that the ripple effects of such trade tensions can significantly impact global supply chains, including the transport of goods and logistics. Increased tariffs will likely lead to higher costs for U.S. manufacturers and consumers, potentially delaying shipments and influencing transportation routes. The challenge for stakeholders will be navigating this complex landscape to minimize disruptions while adapting to evolving trade policies.
