Vertical Cold Storage Buys Michigan Facility

Published: April 9, 2025
Vertical Cold Storage has acquired a 140,000-square-foot facility in Canton, Michigan, from Arctic Logistics. The facility features 19 dock doors and over 20,000 pallet positions, with capabilities such as blast freezing and case picking. This acquisition enhances Vertical's capacity to support customers involved in U.S.-Canada cross-border trade, crucial in today's complex logistics environment. Vertical's Chief Commercial Officer expressed enthusiasm about leveraging his international trade background to navigate these challenges effectively.

The Canton site is the fifth addition for Vertical in the past year, as the company seeks to expand its cold storage network, which already includes new facilities near major U.S. metropolitan areas. Notably, Vertical also opened a multimodal site in Kansas City and purchased a large distribution center near the Port of Savannah. This strategic growth underlines the increasing demand for temperature-controlled logistics solutions as the food supply chain becomes more globalized.

From a transportation perspective, the acquisition reflects a broader trend toward optimizing logistics networks to enhance efficiency and reduce delays in the cold supply chain. The emphasis on proximity to key transport hubs like the Port of Savannah illustrates the critical role of location in logistics. By focusing on strategically important urban centers for its facilities, Vertical Cold Storage aims to future-proof its operations against the evolving dynamics of trade and supply chain demands, ultimately ensuring better service and reliability for its clients.
