Women in Powersports: A Growing Community

In 2007, International Female Ride Day (IFRD) was born on the first Saturday in May, celebrating active lifestyles of women who ride. Since then, it has grown into a massive cultural shift, with women now making up the fastest-growing segment in powersports.

The brainchild of Vicki Gray, IFRD promotes women in motorcycling and powersports, motivating aspiring women riders to join in. The event has helped fuel a cultural shift, with women now riding for fun and competing in both amateur and professional events around the world.

However, the journey is far from over. For every woman who rides today, there remain many others who still haven't found their way. Cost can be a barrier to entry, and purchasing the right bike or vehicle to get started can be unaffordable for some.

Babes in the Dirt, co-founded by Ashmore Ellis, is one organization helping carry the torch. The mission is to enhance each rider's skill set, connect them with other off-road enthusiasts sharing the same passion, and open doors for others.

Synchrony Outdoors joined as a sponsor and official financing partner, dedicated to helping women access vehicles, gear, and accessories they need to hit the trail. This partnership has been instrumental in providing opportunities for women to come together and share their passion.

The growth of women's participation in powersports requires a flow of opportunities to come together with fellow riders, share the passion, and make space for those just finding their way.

Synchrony's commitment to growing women's participation includes hosting Women of Powersports networking luncheons at AIMExpo, bringing together women leaders from across the industry to celebrate progress and plan for what comes next.

It takes a powersports village to support this growth. The community must be genuinely welcoming to new female riders, with infrastructure in place to support them.

The momentum is building, and it's up to each of us to take the torch and help shape what the sport looks like year-round.
