Nio's Firefly brand has reached a significant milestone in its delivery history, welcoming the 60,000th vehicle just days after reaching the 50,000 mark. This achievement comes as the brand attempts to consolidate its market position amid fierce competition. Firefly is positioned as a boutique small car catering to urban commuting consumers.
The latest delivery milestone marks a crucial step for Nio's sub-brand, which has been actively adjusting its strategy to restore growth momentum. The brand's efforts come after an 18.61% decline in April deliveries compared to March.
Firefly's software update, Aster 1.5.0, aims to enhance vehicle performance and prepare for new infrastructure. The over-the-air upgrade boosts the peak motor power of older Firefly EVs from 105 kW to 120 kW, shortening acceleration time to just 7.9 seconds.

This free upgrade aligns the performance of older models with the refreshed Firefly EV launched in April, which boasts a starting price of 119,800 yuan ($17,623) for a full vehicle purchase. The monthly battery rental fee drops significantly to 399 yuan under the BaaS program.
The addition of swap station parking assist features is another core highlight of the system update, helping drivers automatically park their vehicles at Nio's upcoming fifth-generation battery swap stations.
Nio plans to build five to 10 fifth-generation pioneer swap stations between May and June, with larger-scale infrastructure deployment set to begin in July and August. These new stations adopt a restructured underlying architecture compatible with Firefly models' shorter wheelbase.

Firefly delivered 4,980 vehicles in April, contributing 16.96% of Nio Inc's total deliveries of 29,356 units in the month. The brand is actively expanding its international presence, having entered several European countries and right-hand drive markets including Thailand and Singapore.
As Firefly continues to grow, it will be crucial for the brand to maintain its competitive edge through innovative products and services like the latest software update. With Nio's fifth-generation battery swap stations on the horizon, Firefly is poised to play a significant role in shaping the future of urban mobility.
As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, boutique brands like Firefly are crucial for innovation and competition.
