Damen Shipyards Group has signed a contract with Blueshell Mussels to deliver a Landing Utility Vessel 2208. The vessel, named Bountiful, will support the company's mussel harvesting operation in the Shetland Islands off Scotland's north coast.
Blueshell Mussels, a family-owned business based in Brae on Mainland Island, approached Damen when they heard about the shipbuilder's availability of the LUV 2208. The vessel was one of two that Damen had in stock at the time, allowing for fast delivery to the client.
Damen's practice is to construct vessels in series and keep them in stock, providing clients with quick access to proven products. This approach enables clients like Blueshell Mussels to take delivery of their new vessel almost immediately following contract signing.
The 21.7 x 7.5 metre LUV 2208 is designed for coastal and harbour operations, including transport of people and equipment. It often operates in the aquaculture industry or as a lifeline for remote communities.
In the aquaculture sector, the LUV 2208 can handle large nets and cables, with its robust bow ramp allowing for efficient loading and unloading of harvests. The vessel features a large, free deck area capable of handling up to 70 tonnes of equipment.
The vessel's capabilities include lifting 2,500 kilograms at 15.5 metres and 15 tonnes at 3.5 metres using an onboard crane.
