Porsche is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its iconic racing car, the Porsche 935, at this weekend's IMSA Weathertech Sports Car Championship. The event also marks the company's 75th anniversary of racing. A special livery will be featured on a pair of championship-winning Porsche Penske Motorsport 963s.
The livery is based on the Dick Barbour Racing Porsche 935 K3, which ran in 1980, including at the 24 hours of Le Mans. This marks the first time Porsche has carried Apple colors on a race car since the 1980 season.
Porsche's racing history dates back to 1951 with a class victory for the 356 SL at Laguna Seca. The company will run vintage Apple Computer liveries on its championship-winning cars.

The fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship will be contested over two hours and 40 minutes on May 3. In the top-tier GTP category, Porsche Penske Motorsport will field two Porsche 963 entries.
The No. 6 car will be shared by France's Kévin Estre and Belgian Laurens Vanthoor. In the sister car, No. 7, Frenchman Julien Andlauer and Brazilian Felipe Nasr will take the wheel.
Porsche also sits atop the manufacturers' classification. The company's success can be attributed to its ability to fine-tune its hybrid prototypes with valuable data from a two-day test at Laguna Seca.

The Porsche 935 is an iconic racing car that embodies the relentless pushing of boundaries. It was developed on the basis of the Porsche 911 and designed for the then newly introduced Group 5 category.
Porsche's ability to adapt to new technologies has been key to its success in racing, as evident from its current lead in the championship standings.
The special wrap is a nod to Porsche's rich history and its ability to adapt to new technologies.
