Cupra Terramar Hotter

Volkswagen is working on a new Tiguan R, and it seems like Cupra wants to join the party with its own hot crossover. A prototype of the Cupra Terramar has been spotted undergoing testing at the Nürburgring track.

The mysterious model was transported to and from the track on the back of a trailer, suggesting that it may be in need of some extra support during high-performance driving. The prototype was covered during transit to keep curious onlookers in the dark.

However, when the model arrived at the Ring, it was tested undisguised, giving us a glimpse into its potential performance capabilities.

The Cupra Terramar prototype appears to be virtually identical to the current crossover that shares its bones with the less athletic VW Tiguan. However, a closer inspection reveals some subtle cues that hint at a new performance variant.

One of these clues is the presence of lightweight wheels, which are backed up by a high-performance braking system with red Cupra-branded calipers. The model also features a lightly revised rear end with a visible four-tailpipe exhaust system.

The standard Cupra Terramar offers a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 148 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 2.0-liter TSI engine pumping out 262 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The model also features an eHybrid option that combines the 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor.

The eHybrid technology enables the plug-in hybrid to produce a combined output of 268 hp and have an electric-only WLTP range of up to 75 miles. This suggests that the new performance variant could be equipped with an upgraded 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing around 329 hp.

While it's too early to say what the mystery model is, it's clear that Cupra is serious about creating a high-performance crossover that can compete with other models in its class. The upcoming Terramar could be a strong contender in the market for hot SUVs.

As the new performance variant nears its debut, fans of Cupra and Volkswagen will be eagerly awaiting more information about this exciting new model.
