Truckers and Pilots Still Off Limits to Medical Marijuana

Despite the Trump administration's reclassification of medical marijuana, federally regulated truckers and pilots remain off limits to using the substance. The Department of Transportation clarified in a new notice that workers subject to drug testing are still not permitted to consume marijuana, whether prescribed by a doctor or otherwise. This means that even though medical marijuana is now federally legal, it does not automatically become permissible for these workers.

The clarification comes as a result of the reclassification from Schedule I to Schedule III, which makes medical marijuana use federally legal. However, the Department of Transportation's (DOT) new notice highlights the challenges in implementing this change. The DOT document states that 'A
