Turkish Airlines is set to launch nonstop flights between Istanbul and Sydney with specially equipped Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft next year. The carrier has placed an order for 15 examples of the larger -1000 variant, with eight airframes expected to be ULR jets.
The airline's ambitions remain unchanged despite facing challenges on the business side due to the A350-1000s' economics. There are ongoing discussions with Airbus regarding the weight of the aircraft and fuel necessary for long-haul flights. However, Turkish Airlines wants to maintain nonstop services and is willing to invest in premium seating arrangements.
The first -1000 is expected to arrive in July next year, with the third airframe delivered by the end of 2027. The airline's plan to launch Istanbul-Sydney service by the end of next year depends on certification of the aircraft's maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) increase, which is currently ongoing.

Turkish Airlines expects to start direct flights with the specially designed A350-1000ULR aircraft by the end of 2027. The airline will have more business class seats compared to regular ones, with 66 suites on ULRs and 48 on non-ULRs.
The increase in premium seating is part of a broader initiative that also addresses premium economy seats. Turkish Airlines has developed an in-house business class seat in collaboration with its subsidiary TCI Aircraft Interiors.
Passenger feedback and the carrier's longer flight hours have influenced the development of these premium seats. The airline aims to provide a more comfortable experience for its passengers on ultra-long-haul flights.

The A350-1000ULR aircraft will play a crucial role in Turkish Airlines' expansion plans, enabling the carrier to offer nonstop services between Istanbul and Sydney. This route spans nearly 9,300 miles and takes up to 19 hours.
Turkish Airlines' decision to launch nonstop flights between Istanbul and Sydney reflects its commitment to providing high-quality services to its passengers. The airline's investment in premium seating arrangements will enhance the overall travel experience.
The ultra-long-haul service will require specialized aircraft and premium seating arrangements, making it an exciting development for the aviation industry.
