LiveWire Acquires Dust Moto: Electric Dirt Bikes Get Boost

The acquisition of Dust Moto by LiveWire Group marks a significant expansion into the electric off-road adult market. This move is expected to bring a new level of performance, innovation, and competition to the segment. With its existing Stacyc brand and now Dust Moto's electric dirt bikes, LiveWire has established itself as a major player in the electric motorcycle industry.

The acquisition gives LiveWire access to Dust Moto's existing electric dirt bike platform, which will be pushed into production using LiveWire's engineering team, manufacturing relationships, and dealer network. This is expected to bring the models to market faster than Dust Moto could have on its own.

Dust Moto was founded in 2023 with a clear goal of building an affordable, high-performance electric dirt bike in America. The company developed two models before the acquisition: the Model_1 Alpha and the Hightail. Both models were designed to provide exceptional performance while maintaining an affordable price point.

The first model, the Model_1 Alpha, was priced at $10,950 and featured a unique design that set it apart from other electric dirt bikes on the market. The second model, the Hightail, produced 42 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque while weighing under 220 pounds. Both models were developed with Bloom, an EV manufacturer based in Detroit.

The acquisition brings together two brands with a shared vision for performance, innovation, and putting riders first. LiveWire CEO Karim Donnez stated that the deal allows LiveWire to build on its leadership in the on-road electric motorcycle market while expanding into off-road.

With this acquisition, LiveWire gains scale and resources that will enable it to bring Dust Moto's electric dirt bikes to a wider audience. This could lead to increased competition in the electric motorcycle market as more brands enter the segment.

The growth of the electric off-road segment is expected to continue rapidly in the coming years. As more brands enter this market, consumers can expect to see improved performance, innovation, and affordability.

Dust Moto's models will now be part of LiveWire's existing product lineup, which includes Stacyc balance bikes for kids. This long-term pipeline is designed to develop riders who start on a Stacyc bike at age four and progress to a full-size dirt bike over the following decade-plus.

The acquisition marks an exciting next chapter in Dust Moto's journey as it joins forces with LiveWire. With LiveWire's global reach, resources, and scale, Dust Moto can now bring its electric off-road bikes to market with a worldwide audience.
